Learn how Crestwood Transportation implemented TMW solutions to help it make business-altering decisions.
With more than a quarter-century of operating experience, Crestwood Transportation LLC serves its customers by providing safe and reliable transportation of NGL products, crude oil, condensate and water. The Houston-based company is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a SmartWay Partner, which means Crestwood Transportation provides cost-effective transportation with minimal carbon footprint.
In 2014, Crestwood Transportation experienced business challenges, like other carriers transporting energy-related commodities, caused by weakened demand and downward price pressure resulting in underutilized equipment, decreased productivity, and increased cost (driver compensation, equipment lease, and fuel) as a percent of revenue.
In 2016, Crestwood Transportation adapted to business challenges by rationalizing and implementing standardized systems and processes, leveraging industry-leading business and logistics systems. Successful implementation of software systems and processes provided visibility to metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) required to make data-driven decisions to improve efficiencies and increase profitability.
Crestwood implemented software solutions to track data company-wide. Solutions included: Fuel Dispatch, ExpertFuel, TripAlert, TMW Imaging, TMT Fleet Maintenance, and TMW BI, among others. The software solutions capture and assimilate data from the different business units, which enables the management team to analyze the information to identify cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Crestwood Transportation has always had a heavy emphasis on safety. The new solutions provided a deeper insight into safety and operational efficiencies while it also improved communication between drivers, dispatchers and the safety management team. The integrated TMW solutions allow the company to make better decisions utilizing data that customers, drivers, dispatchers, and safety personnel enter in the system. Crestwood saw benefits in customer service from implementing Fuel Dispatch and ExpertFuel. Also, redeploying the TotalMail solution enabled better communication between drivers and dispatchers, which resulted in cost savings, additional services and capabilities that were passed on to customers.
The company has become a two-time recipient of the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) Competitive Safety Award and remains ahead of the curve in safety by implementing software solutions that monitor best practices across the different sectors of the business. Crestwood is in the process of replacing Omnitracs units with PeopleNet in the cabs of all tractors, which will add mobile communication capabilities and improve efficiencies in how drivers manage paperwork and input information on loads in transit. It will help business operations involved with drivers arriving and departing locations, and the efficient loading and unloading of trailers, among other things.
Due to Crestwood Transportation’s business successes from integrating TMW’s integrated software solutions, the company was awarded TMW’s 2017 Innovator of the Year in the energy sector.
“Through TMW’s software solutions we’re able to create synergies across our organization that allow key stakeholders to identify areas where we can create more efficiency, ultimately generating value and impacting our profitability.”
