For 26 years, TMW Systems has dedicated itself to the development of enterprise application software for the transportation industry. Today our Enterprise Software products - TMWSuite, TruckMate, TL2000 and Innovative, as well as our TMW Fleet Maintenance and Fleet Optimization products are used in over 1800 transportation, waste management, private fleets, and construction operations.
Position Purpose
We are seeking a director of software development responsible for the design, delivery and maintenance of our Optimization products focused on the Truckload Carrier Industry. Responsibilities include strategic product planning, management and development of staff, project and release management, requirements analysis and estimating. The successful candidate will be an articulate, customer focused, technically driven leader with a successful track record in driving commercial software development teams to deliver high value application software products on time and on budget.
Position Responsibilities
- Planning, managing and directing all activities as they relate to the software development life-cycle for the development of high-availability, high-volume transactional enterprise software delivered in both premise-based and SaaS implementations
- Overseeing all aspects of staff management, development and retention while providing direction to both on and off shore development teams including specific guidance, assistance and recommendations on project-planning and definition, project structure and resource assignment
- Coordinating integration efforts with third party providers as well as other product lines within TMW including TMWSuite, TruckMate, Innovative and TL2000.
- Providing overall program management, project prioritization and issue resolution oversight (in conjunction with customer service management including meeting directly with clients.
- Proactively responding various types of business needs-including cost reduction, productivity improvement, regulatory compliance and business expansion
- Researching, evaluating and executing development process improvement
- Establishing goals and objectives for managed personnel, motivating such personnel and conducting performance reviews as required of management throughout the organization
- Developing and implementing financial plans for the development and quality assurance departments, managing to budgets and overall organizational goals
Requirements
Background
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Master's degree a plus
- Minimum of 10 years commercial software industry experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience successfully managing multiple senior level managers in an engineering (Development and QA) organization (global org size of 100+).
Managerial Skills
- Successful track record in software engineering management, including managing schedule, development, quality assurance and release of multiple products
- Strong working knowledge of Project Management and full software development life cycle management
- Proven ability to mentor and grow a software development organization.
- Extensive client relationship management experience
- Excellent problem-management and crisis-management skills
- Excellent time management, planning, organizational and project management skills
- Excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills with cross-functional organizations, customers and upper level management and thorough understanding of product development
Minimum Requirements
- Strong experience working with in a Java/J2EE environment and web-based architecture using Tomcat, JSP, Servlets, Web Services
- Aptitude for designing and coding software and a desire to do quality work
- Knowledge of object oriented software development
- Strong working knowledge of C++, Visual C++ and MFC
- Experience in developing web applications using JSP, Servlets, and Tomcat
- Strong experience with SQL, data modeling and relational databases such as MySQL, MS SQL Server or DB2
- Ability to work with a large established software base to locate problems and/or develop new features
- Ability to complete work within estimated time constraints to provide our customers with the best enhancements at a reasonable cost
- Experience with Install Shield. Ability to perform builds for product releases and patches.
- Time management skills to handle multiple task assignments and prioritize work appropriately
- The drive and natural tendency to keep their technology skills up to date
- Technology or Engineering degree
- Good verbal and written communication skills demonstrating the ability to work with customers inside or outside of the company

- Knowledge of mathematical optimization, specifically linear programming, integer programming, network flows and combinatorial optimization is a plus
